At CT Grizzlies, we prioritize the health and safety of our players. To that end, we follow the ImPACT Concussion Management Program. You can learn more about the program by visiting their official website.

Program Overview

We encourage all players to complete a baseline ImPACT screen. If a player shows signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion after an observed or suspected blow to the head or body—or is diagnosed with a concussion—they will be immediately removed from play.

Here are key points about the ImPACT program:

  • Quick Screening: ImPACT is a 20-minute web-based neurocognitive assessment designed to measure memory recall and reaction times.
  • Expert-Developed: Created by the University of Pittsburgh, this tool assists trained medical professionals in determining when a player can safely return to play after a concussion.
  • Injury Prevention: The program aims to minimize the risk of further injury after a concussion by providing objective data that helps measure the extent of brain injury.
  • Serious Injury Mitigation: ImPACT data helps reduce the likelihood of "Second Impact Syndrome," a condition that can lead to severe head injury or even death.
  • Widely Recognized: Used by the NFL, NHL, minor league teams, and many schools and colleges nationwide.
  • Educational Support: Assists healthcare professionals and educators in making decisions about academic adjustments during recovery and tracking cognitive recovery.

Note: ImPACT is a tool to aid in decision-making but is not a substitute for medical evaluation or a diagnostic tool for concussions. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for concussion diagnosis and treatment.

Steps to Follow if Your Daughter Sustains a Head Injury

  1. Immediate Notification: The player must inform their coach immediately.
  2. Coach’s Responsibility: The coach will remove the player from the game or practice.
  3. Medical Follow-Up: The player must visit a doctor for evaluation.
  4. Return-to-Play Clearance: A doctor’s note is required, specifying the dates and extent of activity permitted.
  5. Director Notification: The coach will inform the CT Grizzlies Directors about the incident.

Our goal is to provide the best care and support for our players, ensuring their safety both on and off the field.
